Art Direction · Exhibition Design · Visual Narrative · Lighting Direction
Original concept by Sylvio Giardina.
In close collaboration with Sylvio Giardina, Tania Alineri developed the exhibition’s art direction through an extensive process of research, site visits, and careful planning, exploring the relationship between the collection and the museum’s historical architecture. The project evolved through a continuous dialogue between the garments and their surroundings, allowing the character of each room to inform the spatial arrangement and overall visual narrative. Particular attention was given to the placement of each mannequin, carefully considered in relation to the individual garments, the proportions and atmosphere of the rooms, and the architectural features of the museum. Rather than simply displaying the collection, the arrangement sought to establish a meaningful connection between fashion and place, allowing each piece to interact with its environment and become part of a broader visual composition. Lighting design and the overall visual presentation played a central role in shaping the exhibition experience. Through the careful positioning of light, the silhouettes, textures, and details of the garments were highlighted in relation to the qualities of each space. This integrated approach to spatial composition, lighting, and visual direction created a cohesive exhibition in which the collection and the museum exist in constant dialogue, enhancing the perception of both the garments and their historical setting.
